◎ How might we make importing and exporting Appway solutions more reliable and efficient?
Appway solutions contain multiple packages with individual versions and live in different environments before going into production. Exporting a solution requires painstakingly selecting all the required dependencies and configurations. Even though we understood the current version's shortcomings well, we verified them by interviewing solution engineers – the people importing and exporting solutions. We wanted to better understand the differences in the deployment pipelines across different clients, big and small.
To shape the scope, we clustered the findings with an affinity map to group and prioritize the findings.
We prototyped the solution to validate our hypotheses with solution engineers. Our solution ideas that had crystallised during the research phase – for example, reducing the number of wizard steps – were confirmed.
The reworked one-click deployment offers solution engineers more fine-grained control in selecting configurations, and storing the selection as an export profile for later reuse.
This project was a deep dive into an engineering-heavy topic. I facilitated the planning and execution of the research, and prototyped the solution to build. ¶
